A platform that represents largely multinational drugmakers, the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) has appointed Amitabh Dube as President, for two years, with immediate effect.

Dube is currently the Country President and Managing Director of Swiss drugmaker Novartis in India, and has nearly three decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including stints in international markets. He has earlier served as Country President, Novartis Vietnam, where he also chaired the country’s leading pharmaceutical industry association, an OPPI note said.

OPPI has in the past had former Novartis chief, late Ranjit Shahani as one of its most recognisable faces.

The new OPPI President, Dube, said, the innovative pharmaceutical industry had an important role in improving patient outcomes, advancing scientific innovation and supporting India’s emergence as a global life sciences powerhouse.

Outgoing President Bhushan Akshikar, Vice President and Managing Director, GSK Pharmaceuticals Ltd, said, over the past two years, OPPI had strengthened its engagement with stakeholders and reinforced its commitment to the country’s healthcare priorities.
