Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes arrested for accepting ₹1 lakh bribe
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested Jamuna, Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax, Tambaram Assessment Circle, for allegedly accepting a ₹1 lakh bribe from a private contractor.

According to the DVAC, R. Sivakumar, who runs a construction company named Kalaimani Associates in Vandalur, had received a GST discrepancy notice from the Commercial Tax Office, Tambaram. Although he submitted a reply and provided the required explanations, orders were allegedly not passed on the notice.

Jamuna allegedly demanded ₹2 lakh from Sivakumar for passing the orders and later reduced the amount to ₹1.75 lakh. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the contractor approached the DVAC’s Chennai detachment.

Following the complaint, the DVAC registered a case and organised a trap on Wednesday. During the operation, Jamuna accepted ₹1 lakh from the complainant.

She was subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
