The future is moving towards electronic and increasingly invisible security, driven by spectrum dominance, space-based systems, networked environments and artificial intelligence, said Dr BK Das, Director General, Electronics & Communication Systems, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Thursday.

Addressing the industry at India Fence Expo (IFE) 2026, Dr Das laid the emphasis on the security of the country for its growth. “If we are secure, we can grow, and security is a prime concern. The future is moving towards electronic and increasingly invisible security, driven by spectrum dominance, space-based systems, networked environments and artificial intelligence,” he said in a fireside chat.

He was also of the view that looking 10 years ahead, Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) will play an increasingly important role.

Platforms like India Fence Expo bring industry, startups and technology stakeholders together to discuss today’s solutions and the technologies needed for the future. DRDO has done considerable work in anti-drone and surveillance systems, and I am confident industry will take these technologies forward, he added.

As India strengthens security across critical infrastructure, borders, data centres, transportation networks, industrial facilities, utilities and strategic assets, the country’s perimeter security ecosystem is rapidly moving towards smarter, integrated and increasingly indigenous technologies.

An industry report on India’s perimeter security landscape was launched during the event, focusing on the market opportunity, growth drivers, emerging demand and future opportunities shaping the sector, providing insights into the changing security landscape and the potential for technology and manufacturing growth in India.

The expo brought together the technologies, companies and stakeholders shaping the next phase of perimeter protection in India.

The companies are showcasing solutions across fencing systems and machinery, gates, vehicle access barriers, bollards, access control, Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS), electronic surveillance, infrastructure lighting, and drone deployment, detection and defence technologies.
