Arsenal have been handed an unlikely boost ahead of their next league game against Aston Villa, with an important player for the home side set to miss the match.
Unai Emery’s European champions suffered a heavy defeat in their first game of the season, as Brighton beat them 4-0, with all four goals coming before the 32nd minute.. Villa are among the clubs expected to challenge for a top 4 spot this season after winning the Europa League last campaign, making their poor start particularly disappointing.

However, his three-match ban will deny him the opportunity to show what he can do against the Gunners. His suspension means Emery will have to prepare for the fixture without a player who could have played an important role in the contest.
For Arsenal, Gomes’ absence represents a timely boost ahead of a difficult away fixture. Villa will be looking to recover from their heavy opening defeat and respond strongly, but they will have to do so without the Brazilian midfielder.
The result against Brighton will have increased the pressure on Villa to improve quickly, particularly with Arsenal next on their schedule. Gomes’ suspension could make that task more difficult, while Arsenal will hope to take full advantage of his absence when the two sides meet.
