No. 3 Florida State women's soccer was upset on the road by unranked Florida 3-1 at Donald R Dizney Stadium.
The upset loss was the first win for Florida against Florida State since 2015, and ended the eight-game win streak previously held by Florida State.
Florida State has a 36 game win streak versus nonconference opponents was snapped, as well as their 12-gameunbeaten streak, and their 9-game win streak. With the loss Florida State falls to 3-1-0, and Florida improves to 2-1-0. Florida State also saw it’s five game shut out streak snapped.
Head coach Brian Pensky has led Florida State to two national titles since he arrived in 2022 (2023/2025). Pensky was forced to replace a national championship roster in 2026 after losing seven starters from his 2025 championship team. Pensky brought in 11 transfer portal players and five players from high school and junior college.
Not only did Florida snap Florida State's shutout streak, but they are also the first team to score a goal against the defending national champs in the first half of a game in 2026.
After already securing two saves Florida State goalkeeper surrendered her first goal of the season when Florida’s Kyra Taylor scored off a header that was assisted by Mia Gray at the 22nd minute mark.
Florida would then follow up with another goal by Taylor at the 62nd mark on an assist by Zoe Main. The final dagger would come at the 79th minute mark when Montelene Dymond scored from a Tatum Borman assist.
Florida State didn't lay down after being down 3-0. Freshman Ryder Ajeto put Florida State on the board at the 82nd minute mark. Florida State definitely played with a sense of urgency in the second half but it wasn't enough for the aggressive Florida Gators who were in attack mode the entire game.
In Florida State's first three games, they outshot opponents 48-14, against Florida, they were outshot 14-8 including 8-5 for shots on goal. Florida's aggressive style of play proved to be too much for the newly formed team put together by Pensky.
Florida State has ten days off until their next game against No. 25 Georgia on September 3. The Bulldogs are currently 1-0-2 with their most recent win coming against James Madison in a 6-0 victory in front of an NCAA record crowd of 25,433 fans.
The Bulldogs currently have five players on the SEC Preseason Watchlist. These players are Kiera Staude, Hannah Folliard, Jordan Brown, Mya Townes, and Honoka Hamano.
