The program is currently gearing up for a big game on Saturday at home. This game marks a rematch of the season-opening clash between the two teams last year, a game in which and the Longhorns’ offense were largely locked down by the Ohio State defense.
Manning has seen his stock grow considerably since that low moment, now viewed by many as the potential top pick in next year’s NFL Draft, but his performance on Saturday in the rematch could have big implications
” It’s just really about the nuances of the position. Sometimes he looks like he’s skipping rocks. If you watch the Ohio State game (last year), he looked terrible and looked scared and timid but then towards the end of the year, he started playing better,” said one NFL scout, per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

Many fans were puzzled when Manning got off to a rough start to the 2025 season, even performing poorly in some of Texas’ games against non-Power 5 schools. However, the prodigy started to put things together as the season wore on, culminating in a strong performance against then-undefeated rival Texas A&M at the end of the season.
“I view Arch right now as a developmental (NFL) starter that still has a long way to go in terms of touch and processing and seeing the field, but you expect that he’s going to get it because he has all the physical tools and the wiring and the pedigree from his family and all that,” said another scout.
Texas and Ohio State are slated to kick off on Saturday at 7:30 pm ET from Austin.
