To Reacher's dismay, he seems too far from the location of the planned attack. Owing to this, he is forced to walk Sampson through a long checklist of indicators that a suicide bomber might show. Sampson ultimately spots the attacker with Reacher's help before it is too late. He even puts his life on the line to ensure the attacker does not release the bioweapon by grabbing him and jumping underwater with him.

Owing to his role in the book, it was hard not to be suspicious about his motives in the Reacher season 4's early episodes. In episode 7, however, Sampson proves his innocence by sacrificing his life to protect many innocents.

The Prime Video show is yet to reveal his fate and there is still a slight chance that Sampson orchestrated the attack and staged his sacrifice to gain a political edge and win the upcoming elections. However, given how the episode's ending shows a full-fledged explosion after Sampson jumps underwater with the attacker, it seems like he did actually put his life on the line to save the day.

Sampson’s Sacrifice Is Reminiscent Of Guy’s Death In Season 2

Since trouble always seems to find Reacher, Sampson and Guy also seem victims of the dangerous situations that always surround the Alan Ritchson character. Both characters never had any ill intentions and were actively working against corrupt systems to make the world a better place.

To their dismay, they eventually encountered situations where they were forced to protect others at a tremendous personal cost. While Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher is the main protagonist in Prime Video's Reacher, it is hard not to see both Guy Russo and John Sampson as heroic figures in their own right.
