Semi Ajayi, Zak Mendy and Ryan Giles were all withdrawn with what Holden described as signs of fatigue and cramp.
“The first signs were that it was mainly fatigue, a little bit of cramp, certainly in the two centre backs [Ajayi and Mendy] and Gilo [Ryan Giles] as well,” Holden said.
Lewie Coyle is also a doubt for their Carabao Cup tie against Stoke on Tuesday due to struggling with an ankle issue.
“Lewie Coyle’s got a bit of a niggling ankle issue which has been ongoing throughout pre-season, but as he always does, he puts himself up there for selection, and we’ll just have to see how he is,” Holden added.
Holden says the club will assess the players before deciding whether they can feature against Stoke.
“Hopefully the lads that came off will be OK,” he said.
