New England Patriots wide receiver AJ Brown got what he badly needed: A change of scenery. Now, he is ready to regain the old form that made him a three-time All-Pro.
Brown had a tension-filled exit from the Philadelphia Eagles. While he said he has no ill will toward the Eagles, he wanted to move forward with a different team.
The 29-year-old veteran will be a main target of Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, and for the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed, their connection will make Brown a weekly threat.

“I certainly would not be surprised if it was kind of a vintage AJ Brown type season because I do think that from a passing standpoint, he’s got a good upgrade there at quarterback in Drake Maye,” said Kyed on the “NFL Spotlight with Ari Meirov.”
He added that Brown was terrific in training camp, going up against some of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
“On the field, he’s looked like a legitimate number one wide receiver. He was out there beating Quinyon Mitchell. He was out there beating Sauce Gardner. Now he’s facing up against Christian Gonzalez every day. So it’s not like the guy has had no tests out there,” said Kyed.

He claimed that the three-time Pro Bowler is a “major upgrade” for the Patriots compared to former wide receiver Stefon Diggs, whom the team released in March.
Last season, Brown had 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. He, however, saw fewer touches compared to previous years, which led to his displeasure with the Eagles.
He was traded to New England for a fifth-round pick in 2027 and a first-round pick in 2028.
