Sept. 11 (UPI) -- The New England Patriots agreed to a one-year contract with free agent defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, a league source told UPI on Friday.
Jones spent the last four seasons with the Buffalo Bills. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound defensive lineman also spent time played for the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers. He appeared in 99 games through his first 12 seasons, including 28 between his 2024 and 2025 campaigns.
Cory Durden and Milton Williams started for the Patriots, with fellow defensive tackle Christian Barmore mixing in, in their season-opening loss Wednesday to the Seattle Seahawks. Leonard Taylor III and Joshua Farmer are among their other defensive tackles.
Jones, 34, logged 372 tackles, 34 tackles for a loss, 20 sacks, seven passes defensed, four forced fumbles three fumble recoveries and an interception through his first 12 seasons.
Pro Football Focus rated Jones as the last season, among those who were in for at least 50% of the maximum snaps played at the position.
He rated No. 14 as a pass rusher and No. 27 as a run defender among qualifying defensive linemen. Jones rated No. 33 overall among qualifying players in 2024, with the No. 15 pass rushing grade.
Jones signed a two-year, $16 million contract with the Bills in 2024. That pact was later restructured, leading him to become a free agent this off-season.
The Patriots will host the Pittsburgh Steelers in their second game at 1 p.m. EDT Sept. 20 in Foxborough, Mass. They will take on Jones' most recent former team, the Bills, on Oct. 4 in Orchard Park, N.Y. and Dec. 6 in Foxborough, Mass.
