Speaking while holding a meeting with representatives from various industries, fisheries associations, tourism entrepreneurs, and officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in view of the Cabinet meeting, he said that representations had been received regarding the shortage of land for industrial development in the district. The government would focus on developing new industrial areas. A proposal worth ₹28 crore for road development in the Baikampady Industrial Area had already been submitted to the State government.
He instructed officials to submit a proposal to the government to establish a hostel nearby (near Baikampady) to accommodate apprentices undergoing training in the industrial area — a matter brought to his attention by office-bearers of the Kanara Small Industries Association.
Mr. Khader directed officials to prepare a proposal to develop the Thokkottu-Mudipu-Melkar Road into a corridor serving the education, health, religious, and IT sectors, while also establishing it as a connecting route to the roads leading to Bengaluru and Keralam.
Fishermen leaders Chetan and Mohan Bengre highlighted the acute shortage of berthing space for boats at the city’s Old Port dock, noting the difficulties faced by smaller boats when navigating alongside larger vessels. They urged the authorities to establish fishing jetties at Kasaba Bengre, Hosabettu, Tannirbhavi, and Kotepura, and emphasised the need to prioritise river dredging operations.
Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan said that plans were underway to develop tourism infrastructure by utilising 150 acres of land under the jurisdiction of the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), and discussions regarding this had already been held with the NMPA. He added that proposals had been submitted to the government for various projects, including the development of the city’s old Deputy Commissioner’s office, setting up an elephant camp, the revision of CRZ regulations, and the development of coastal roads.
Mangaluru Urban Development Authority Chairman Santosh Kumar Shetty, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Narvade Vinayak Karbari, Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Superintendent of Police K. Arun, Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey, and others were present at the meeting.
