Anakapalli district received widespread rain, while many other places in Andhra Pradesh saw light to moderate rainfall on Thursday, under the influence of a low-pressure zone formed over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. The current spell of rain has brought relief to the State from scorching heat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, said squally winds, with speeds reaching 40 kmph to 50 kmph, are very likely to blow along the North Andhra Pradesh coast on Friday. An advisory has been issued for fishermen of North Coastal A.P. not to venture into the sea on Friday.

According to real-time rainfall data available with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), as of 6 p.m. on Thursday, Thallur in Prakasam district received the day’s highest rain of 38.85 mm, followed by Darlapudi in Anakapalli district (37.5 mm), Sabbavaram, Paravada and Vooderu in Anakapalli district (34.5 mm), Gandhavaram in Anakapalli (34 mm), Tadepalli in Guntur district (31 mm), Vijayawada in NTR district (15 mm).

The districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Kakinada, Polavaram, Srikakulam, NTR, Palnadu, Krishna, Markapuram, and Guntur also received light showers till 6 p.m.

The State may continue to receive rain till Saturday.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange alert for the districts of Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari and West Godavari. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in these districts on Friday, the weather forecast suggests.

Other coastal districts may receive light to moderate showers, and Rayalaseema may also receive isolated light showers.

There is a yellow alert in place for the districts of Anakapalli, Kakinada, Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, Guntur and Bapatla on Saturday as well, as isolated heavy rainfall is expected in these districts. No such alerts have been isuued for Sunday.
