A group of people allegedly assaulted an autorickshaw driver, accused of sexual harassment, and handed him over to the police at Parpunja under Puttur Rural police limits on Wednesday. Police later arrested him.

In a statement, the police said Balakrishna was taking a woman known to him, who belongs to another community, to Puttur in his autorickshaw. In her complaint, the woman alleged that Balakrishna took a detour towards Kuriya, stopped on the way and misbehaved with her. Based on her complaint, the police arrested him under Sections 74, 75 and 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to eyewitnesses, a group followed the autorickshaw in a vehicle and allegedly assaulted Balakrishna after he stopped on the way to Kuriya. The group then handed him over to the police, around the same time the woman was filing her complaint at the police station.
