The have one of the biggest matchups of the 2026 college football season as they take on the beat the Western Michigan Broncos on a controversial last-second touchdown pass, 13-12.
Head coach Brent Venables revealed the key to defeating Michigan on Saturday.
"Striking blocks, getting off of blocks, tackling, having population at the football is going to be critical in this game," "But there is no path to winning without being the most physical team. And that's the challenge for both squads. Who can match that and then some for four quarters? "
That challenge could be particularly important for Michigan. The Wolverines struggled to establish their rushing attack against Western Michigan, and Oklahoma's defensive front presents a much more difficult test. At the same time, the Sooners cannot assume their Week 1 dominance will carry over automatically against a Michigan team playing at home.
Venables' message ultimately makes the matchup fairly simple: Oklahoma needs to win at the line of scrimmage, swarm to the football and maintain its physical edge for all four quarters. If the Sooners can do that, they have a strong chance to repeat last year's win. If Michigan can match that intensity and finally establish the run, the Wolverines could make Saturday a different game from what their opening weekend suggested.
