BGauss has launched the C12 MaxR electric scooter in India, priced at Rs. 1.45 lakhs (ex-showroom). The C12 MaxR combines a 3.8kWh LFP battery with a side-mounted motor, while also placing considerable emphasis on practicality, connected features and storage.
The scooter is based on BGauss’ WSA platform, an architecture designed to accommodate different battery, motor and wheel configurations. According to the company, the platform uses high-tensile micro-alloy steel and is engineered for a claimed service life of up to 150,000km.
BGauss C12 MaxR: battery and range
The C12 MaxR gets a 3.8kWh LFP battery housed in an aluminium casing. The battery has an IP67 rating and weighs 32 kg, while BGauss says its battery management system incorporates 110 safety and protection features.
The company claims an IDC-certified range of 178 km on a full charge. A 750W charger is offered as standard, with the battery taking a claimed 3 hours 50 minutes to charge from 0-80 percent and 5 hours 15 minutes for a full charge.
Real-world range, however, will vary depending on factors such as riding conditions, speed, rider weight and use of the different riding modes.
4.2kW motor and 75 km/hr top speed
Power comes from BGauss’ new HyperZen in-wheel hyperdrive motor platform. On the C12 MaxR, the motor produces a claimed 4.2kW of peak power, with a claimed top speed of 75 km/hr.
The scooter has three riding modes — Eco, Ride and Sport — with claimed maximum speeds of approximately 45 km/hr, 60 km/hr and 75 km/hr, respectively. It also gets reverse mode, cruise control and regenerative braking.
BGauss claims a 0-40 km/hr acceleration time of 5.3 seconds and a gradeability figure of 18±2 degrees with a 75 kg rider.
The HyperZen system integrates the motor, gear transmission, braking system and motor control unit into a compact architecture. BGauss says this eliminates the conventional belt or chain transmission and reduces wiring and packaging requirements.
12-inch wheels and adjustable rear suspension
The C12 MaxR uses 12-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. The front tyre measures 90/90-12, while the rear gets a 100/80-12 unit.
Braking hardware comprises a 220 mm front disc with a rear 130 mm drum brake and CBS. Regenerative braking is also standard. Suspension duties are handled by a hydraulic telescopic setup at the front and a five-step adjustable hydraulic rear shock absorber.
The scooter weighs 126 kg and has a claimed ground clearance of 160 mm. It has a 768mm rider seat height, a 1875 mm overall length, 745 mm width and 1146 mm height. BGauss lists its standard payload capacity at 150 kg.
Focus on practicality and storage
One of the key areas of the C12 MaxR is its storage provision. BGauss says the scooter can accommodate two helmets under the seat, while the floorboard is large enough for a medium-sized piece of luggage.
Other storage provisions include a pop-out umbrella holder, a lockable compartment for documents and a wallet, a mobile phone pocket with dedicated bottle space, and an enclosed storage pocket. There is also a dedicated space for carrying a cleaning cloth.
The scooter’s boot and floorboard layout are therefore designed to make it more useful for everyday commuting, although the company has not specified the exact under-seat storage capacity in litres in the material provided.
Features and connected technology
The C12 MaxR comes with a 5-inch TFT display supporting turn-by-turn navigation, call notifications, ride and charging statistics, user profiles and multiple display themes.
Other features include distance-to-empty, fall sensing, side- and main-stand motor cut-off, service reminders, low-state-of-charge limp-home mode, regenerative braking and a ‘Guide My Home’ light function.
Through BGauss’ connected ecosystem, the scooter supports features such as parental lock, SecureLock, selectable speed modes, profile settings, firmware updates, vehicle health checks and DigiLocker connectivity. The company notes that its internet/connected functions require a subscription plan.
Lighting is LED-based, including the projector headlamp, tail lamp, indicators and boot lamp. A USB Type-C charging port is also provided.
Warranty and availability
BGauss is offering a three-year/50,000km warranty on the battery, motor, charger and vehicle. An extended battery warranty of five years/100,000km is also listed.
The C12 MaxR will be offered in Sparkling Wine with Champagne Gold, Terra Green with Champagne Gold, Pearl White and Satin Black.
The scooter is being introduced through BGauss’ dealership network, with the company stating that it currently has 182 dealerships and more than 350 customer touchpoints across India.
