However, dad's genes don't get all the credit for the star athlete that Kinley is. Kinley's mother, Jill Rasmus, was once known as a standout softball player at the University of Southern Mississippi. Kinley's uncle Colby Rasmus, who spent nine years in the MLB, isn't even the longest-tenured pro baseball player in the family.
That would be her mom's brother, Jeff Mathis — a 16-year catcher in the MLB who spent six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. As a junior, she played in 53 games and started 29 times at shortstop, which Kinley plays when she isn't pitching, and also got 23 nods at designated player.
