SALINA, Kan. (KSNW) – Pretty soon, Friday night football will be reserved for high schools, and it's time to talk Salina South football. The Cougars struggled in the regular season last year and managed just one win, but then they won their first two postseason games to reach the quarterfinals. "Learning from the good and bad from last year and understanding if we play together, we can be a pretty good football team," Salina South head coach Christien Ozores said. "I think we're a good football team, but we want to be great, and so, we've got to take the steps to do that. " "Building on those playoff wins, we just got to grind as a team," Salina South senior running back Armane Redmond said. "We all kind of got boosted from it. "
2026 high school football previews: Southeast of Saline Trojans Salina South brings back 15 starters this season, so now it looks to build from that momentum it picked up over the course of final weeks of 2025. "Leaning into this season, we're really going to carry that momentum, pick up all the bad mistakes we made in that last game and really show what we can do this season," Salina South senior safety Kobie Henley said. The Cougars open the season at crosstown rival Salina Central on Sept. 4.
