Caitlin Clark jumped to No. 1 on the former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III’s MVP list. In his rankings, A’ja Wilson was second, Olivia Miles third, Kelsey Mitchell fourth, and Paige Bueckers fifth.

Griffin shared his list after Clark scored 29 points and dished 10 assists in Friday’s showdown against the Bueckers’ Dallas Wings. The Indiana Fever won 98-87.

“The WNBA MVP race: 1. Caitlin Clark 2. A’Ja Wilson 3. Olivia Miles 4. Kelsey Mitchell 5. Paige Bueckers,” Griffin wrote on X.

Wilson has been the consensus favorite, while Miles has been second. Mitchell’s stock has kept her in the top four, while many others favor Bueckers over Clark. Statistically, Clark should have a top-four place, too, as she’s averaging 21.9 points and 8.3 assists, ranking fourth in points and first in assists per game.

However, due to her high turnover rate (4.6 per game) and shooting struggles (45.0% from the field, including 35.7% from the 3-point range), she’s not considered a heavy favorite. Several fans disagreed with Griffin’s ranking in the replies to his X post after he put Clark No. 1 on his personal MVP list.

“Your rage baiting skills are next level!!” one fan said.

More reactions followed.

Aliyah Boston calls Kelsey Mitchell the MVP over Caitlin Clark

Aliyah Boston hailed Kelsey Mitchell as the MVP candidate from the Fever over Caitlin Clark. Addressing reporters on Thursday, Boston reserved high praise for the season Mitchell is having, averaging a career-high 24.3 points on 50.6% shooting, including 43.6% from 3-point range.

“She’s really just the MVP,” Boston told reporters. “I think that’s just what she’s been doing. Every single night you see her come out and she drops. I don’t even know how many points at this rate.”

Mitchell had 18 consecutive games with 20-plus points when Boston called her the MVP. She now has 19 after Friday’s win over the Wings.

Like Robert Griffin III, Boston’s comments were polarizing, as several Clark fans argued that she was the MVP, not Mitchell. Many feel Clark is also contributing with her playmaking, which is why she isn’t matching Mitchell’s scoring and shooting efficiency.

They feel Mitchell is only contributing with her scoring and that shouldn’t make her eligible as an MVP candidate over Clark.
