Yankton, Pierre preparing for warm temperatures Friday

YANKTON, S.D. (KELO) — Football and hot weather like we are expecting across KELOLAND on Friday night do not mix very well, as such many high schools have changed their approach to this week's games because of it. The Pierre Governors won the state title from the Yankton Bucks last year, 56-35, but both these teams have started this season 1-0 after Pierre dominated Sturgis Brown 42-6, while Yankton posted a blowout win of their own against Aberdeen Central 48-11. This game is one of many that's been impacted by the weather forecast. Highs were around the mid-90s at kickoff and indexes were even higher, with this knowledge, the coaches are taking this into account for their game plans. "The hottest day of the week is going to be Friday probably so hopefully that doesn't change our practices too much and we're able to get accomplished what we need to go down there and play a good game on Friday," Pierre Head Coach Steve Steele said. "We don't want the heat to be part of the game plan. We want to take care of that from our coaches point of view and make sure that our players are put in a good position to have success on Friday night and have enough juice to get there," Yankton Head Coach Brady Muth said.
