Yankees' lefty-hitting outfielder Spencer Jones has continued to make a strong case for playing time. Jones has homered in each of the Yankees' first two games at Anaheim, including Tuesday night's 7-3 victory against the Angels. And Jones is in center field for Wednesday night's series finale at Angel Stadium, with Grisham on the bench and rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. (right knee inflammation) out of the lineup for a fourth straight game. With the Yanks' scheduled off day Thursday, Lombard could return for the start of a three-game series Friday at San Diego. Just as notable as his first-inning drive - the start of back-to-back homers with Jazz Chisholm Jr. - Jones later collected an RBI single off a left-handed reliever, increasing his batting average to .400 (14-for-35) off lefties this year. Spencer Jones vs. Trent Grisham Entering Wednesday night's game, Jones is batting .357 (10-for-28) with a 1.049 OPS in his last 10 games, while Grisham has been in a recent slide. The lefty-hitting center fielder broke an 0-for-23 skid with an RBI single on Tuesday night. Manager Aaron Boone has continued to voice confidence in Grisham as his regular center fielder, despite his streaky nature at the plate and sub par defensive metrics. And with Aaron Judge's looming return, possibly sometime during the next homestand, there could be a daily decision to make in center field between Grisham and Jones.
Yankees vs Angels probable pitchers for today Having split the first two games of this three-game set at Angel Stadium, the Yankees will send leading AL Cy Young candidate Cam Schlittler (12-6, 2.09) against Angels' lefty Reid Detmers (4-8, 3.54). Back on April 14 at Yankee Stadium, Detmers limited the Yanks to one run across seven innings, with nine strikeouts, in a 7-1 Angels win. Schlittler did not face the Angels in that series.
