The Indiana Fever’s win over the Atlanta Dream was full of controversy off the court.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever pulled off a thrilling 95-91 overtime victory against the Atlanta Dream recently.

It was Clark who led Indiana with 26 points and nine assists, supported by a career-high 20 points from Makayla Timpson and 20 from Kelsey Mitchell, while Allisha Gray dropped 32 points for Atlanta.

The dramatic climax came at the end of regulation when Angel Reese missed a point-blank, potential game-winning layup at the buzzer. And broadcast cameras even caught Clark smirking and laughing in relief in the background right as Reese reacted in frustration, which went viral on social media.

But there was an even bigger incident to come out of the game.

WNBA admit Indiana Fever v Atlanta Dream fan incident was wrong

A mother and daughter attending the WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever were instructed by arena security to cover up their XX-XY Athletics apparel.

Yet another statement followed.

“The WNBA is aware of interactions at last night’s game in Atlanta in which fans were asked by league security to cover their shirts. This should not have happened.”

The Atlanta Dream also addressed the matter on X.

“The Atlanta Dream believes in creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Unfortunately, at last night’s game, WNBA security took actions that fell short of that standard. At no point was Dream personnel involved in the decisions made by WNBA security.”

This incident ties directly into the transgender debate, which was brought even further into the limelight by Sophie Cunningham’s recent public statements.

After the Indiana Fever guard argued that biological men should be excluded from women’s sports, XX-XY apparel became a prominent symbol for her supporters, leading directly to the arena censorship clash.
