A scooter rider was injured after a wild gaur attacked him at Vattakkayam, near Peruvannamuzhi, early on Thursday (September 10, 2026), Image from article: Wild gaur attacks motorist in Keralam’s Kozhikode
The incident comes days after the death of V.C. Sunil, 40, a native of Nadapuram, in a gaur attack at Vilangad on August 29. Sunil, a court employee in Chengannur, was in his native place for the Onam holidays when he joined Forest Department officials in trying to drive a gaur away from an agricultural field. The animal charged at him when he could not move away. He suffered serious injuries and died while undergoing treatment at the Kuttiady Taluk Hospital.

Threat to farmers

Residents in the Vilangad area have complained that gaur incursions are posing a serious threat to farmers and that power fences erected at vulnerable locations have failed to keep the animals away.

Residents of Peruvannamuzhi have also sought urgent Forest Department intervention, saying wild animals are increasingly straying onto roads and into areas close to human habitation.
