Can you feel it, Broncos Country? It’s officially week 1 in the NFL!
Okay, maybe it’s a little premature to get amped for Broncos football when Denver doesn’t play for another whole week, but that doesn’t make the football season any less ‘here’. This season kicks off with a Super Bowl rematch in Seattle, featuring the Patriots of New England and the champion Seahawks. Expect a lot of deserved seabird chest beating and exuberance in their 12th man identity, licensed from Texas A&M.
On Thursday night, the NFL’s first international game takes place between the 49ers and the Rams in Australia. One wonders how our friends in the UK feel about a marquee divisional matchup being exported to Australia while Londoners are plagued for eternity with Jaguar home games. It just doesn’t seem fair.
Sunday begins the bulk of the week 1 games, with 13 being played throughout the day. The first football Sunday in the 2026 season culminates in the obligatory Giants and Cowboys showdown that’s forced on innocent football fans every year, no matter how inept or awful both teams may be. It’s probably best to get this one out of the way early.
Then… Finally… On Monday, a whole week from the time of this writing, the Broncos will travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in a rare September tilt. Fans will finally get to see just how lethal Nix-to-Waddle connection can be this season. Questions will be answered, like how long will Sean Payton be able to keep his hands off Davis Webb’s play sheet? Will the defense absorb the loss of free agent John Franklin Myers? Will Jonathon Cooper’s offseason stupidity affect this team?
Folks, you’ve waited for the 2026 season ever since a snowy white out and Jarett Stidham’s limitations surprised the Broncos in the AFC Championship game. Sure, Denver’s game is still a week away, but there is plenty of football to tide us over. Get ready Broncos Country, week 1 of the NFL season is officially here!
