No. 24 Tennessee will kick off its 2026 soccer season on Thursday. The Lady Vols will host Rutgers at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Thursday will mark the third meeting all time between Tennessee and Rutgers in soccer. The series is tied, 1-1, dating to Sept. 9, 2001.
The Lady Vols won the first matchup, 3-0, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Rutgers won the last meeting, 1-0, on Aug. 29, 2019 in Piscataway, New Jersey.
"Excited to get things kicked off again this year," Tennessee head coach Joe Kirt said. "I think we're the first sport every year to get the the season rolling. Obviously, a great start last year for us. Hoping to do the same this year against a really talented Rutgers team who's well coached. Great style. Should be a great game tomorrow night at Regal, and we've got a fun group.
"Graduated a number of players last year. Lost two All-Americans, but really excited about our freshmen coming in, some of the transfers. Really impactful and mature, exciting group to watch, so we can't wait to get started for real. Had two good exhibition games that we're able to build from and now it's for real tomorrow night down at Regal, so excited about it."
