Odell Beckham Jr. stepped back onto the field in a New York Giants uniform on Saturday for the first time since 2018, drawing a standing ovation from the home crowd in a preseason matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The numbers were modest. Beckham finished with two catches on three targets for six yards. Yet the performance offered more than the stat line suggested. He consistently created separation, beat defenders, and exposed broken coverages with crisp route running. The Giants simply struggled to get him the football. Beckham was also ferocious as a blocker. He spared no effort in that department, consistently engaging defenders with intensity and physicality that stood out even in limited opportunities. After the game, Beckham reflected on the ovation that greeted him. “Time to play ball. It’s been a long time coming. Just excited. Trying to stay in the moment — be where my feet are at and make plays,” he said. He also addressed the limited targets despite getting open. “The tape will never lie,” Beckham said. “The right people will see it. And if you aren’t open, you aren’t open. If you are getting open, I’m sure that they’ll see that, too.” Head coach John Harbaugh offered a measured but positive assessment. “I thought he looked pretty good. He looked pretty good. Made a couple catches, you know, did some things, some things he could have done better. He’ll be the first guy to tell you that. But I thought he looked solid, I would say," Harbaugh told reporters. Harbaugh also loved the crowd's reaction to Beckham. “Yeah, yeah, it was fun. It was fun. I mean, I love Odell. I do. What he’s doing, what he’s fighting for, I don’t know how it’s going to turn out. It’s going to turn out the way it turns out, based on what happens. But to see his fight, his determination, his humility. He’s got his son in camp the other day, you know, he’s doing it for his son. You know, that just, as a friend, that makes me really proud of him," the coach added. Beckham’s return carried clear emotional weight. The reception from the stands and his measured comments afterward underscored both the history and the unfinished business that still surrounds his time with the franchise.
