A sharp delivery from Taskin Ahmed during the opening Test of the 2026 Australia-Bangladesh series at Darwin produced one of the standout moments of Australia's first innings. The ball seamed away off the surface, beat Beau Webster's outside edge and struck the stumps, sending the allrounder back to the pavilion.

Cricket Australia's official account on X posted footage of the dismissal, highlighting the lateral movement Taskin extracted from the Darwin pitch. The clip drew attention to the conditions Bangladesh's pace attack exploited throughout the day. This was Taskin's second scalp of the day, after having dismissed Cameron Green, who chipped a length ball to Mushfiqur Rahim to short mid-wicket.

Hasan Mahmud leads Bangladesh's bowling effort

Taskin and Hasan Mahmud opened the bowling for Bangladesh, with Ebadot Hossain selected as the third seamer ahead of Khaled Ahmed. All three fast bowlers were rewarded for disciplined lines and lengths in conditions that offered consistent lateral movement.

Australia were dismissed for 198 in their first innings. Hasan Mahmud was the standout performer, finishing with 6 for 55, which ranked as the third-best figures by a Bangladesh quick in Test cricket. Taskin contributed 2 for 55 alongside him, while Ebadot also chipped in with figures of 2 for 35. They were also supported by brilliant efforts on the field, with wicketkeeper Litton Das taking three catches.

Series context: Bangladesh's first Test tour of Australia in 23 years

Webster had come in at number seven in a lineup that included both himself and Green as all-rounders. The only extended partnership Australia managed came at the fifth wicket, where Steven Smith and Alex Carey added 55 runs together. That stand ended when Ebadot got the ball to sneak through Carey's defences off the inside edge after the drinks break, with Carey departing for 19. Smith was the lone shining spark in the Aussies' batting efforts, scoring a well-made 71 off 109 balls.

The Darwin match is the first of a two-Test series, with the second fixture scheduled in Mackay. The tour marks Bangladesh's first Test assignment in Australia in 23 years.
