Wales and Pakistan play out thrilling draw at Hockey World Cup

Abdul Rehman opened the scoring for Pakistan after three minutes with some brilliant aerial work along the baseline. Wales, however, rallied in the second quarter, taking full advantage of a yellow card for Sufyan Khan. Gareth Furlong's penalty corner was powerfully converted and Rhys Bradshaw gave Wales the lead 30 seconds later. Khan returned from his yellow card to equalise from a penalty corner in the fourth quarter before a deflection from Hannan Shahid gave Pakistan the lead once more. Gareth Furlong coolly finished with a penalty stroke for his second of the game to bring the scores level at 3-3. The result means both teams have one point after two games in pool D and remain in contention for a second-round spot. Wales suffered a 3-1 defeat to India on Saturday while Pakistan were beaten 4-1 by England in their opening game. Wales will face world number three side England on Wednesday (11:30 BST) in their final pool match. As part of a largely amateur programme, many of the squad have full-time jobs or study, and players are responsible for funding their own international travel. Rhodri Furlong won his 100th cap during the match.
