
The Minnesota to start the season, and it will be the beginning of the era. The quarterback proved throughout training camp and preseason that he was the top option to lead the team, and he will have a chance to get the offense back to relevance this season.
J.J. McCarthy was in the quarterback battle this offseason as well, but it looks as if he still has some ways to go before the team trusts him, even after selecting him No. 10 in the 2024 NFL Draft. In fact, instead of making him the backup behind Murray for the season, they chose Carson Wentz, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell announced Carson Wentz will be the No. 2 backup QB on Sunday vs. the Packers and J.J. McCarthy will be QB3,” Schefter , formerly Twitter.

Wentz played five games for the Vikings last season after McCarthy went down with an injury. There was hope that McCarthy would be able to take the QB1 spot this season, but it was evident the team didn’t have full belief in him when they signed Murray.
After Murray was named the starting quarterback, general manager Nolan Teasley shared as he continues his young career.
“J.J. McCarthy’s role is to continue to develop, improve, and support his teammates,” Teasley said. “He has done an excellent job of that since I’ve been here and, to my knowledge, since he first joined the team.”
