The Minnesota Vikings have their starting quarterback, and it's not J.J. McCarthy. This team is going with Kyler Murray, who came over to Minnesota from the Arizona Cardinals, so this is his show, at least for now.
Because of the Vikings crowning Murray their starting quarterback for the start of this season, there's been a lot of trade speculation and rumors about the team possibly sending McCarthy away. With that in mind, it's not a surprise that general manager Nolan Teasley addressed McCarthy during his meeting with the media on Wednesday.
McCarthy is a question on every Vikings reporter's mind. Teasley knew he'd have to address the elephant in the room. But, he didn't share too many specifics, of course.
Nolan Teasley addresses J.J. McCarthy's future with Vikings
Speaking to reporters, Teasley said that McCarthy, who injured his ankle in preseason, was back to being a full participant in practice over the past two days. He said that he believes the quarterback will also be on the roster for the team's opening game against Green Bay. He didn't, however, say whether he would be the direct backup to Murray.
“I wouldn’t really necessarily comment on depth immediately, but I’m pleased that he’s part of the present version of the Minnesota Vikings and excited about his future,” Teasley said. Way to play it safe.
If McCarthy isn't directly behind Murray, that job will go to Carson Wentz, who's also on the 53-man roster for the Vikings. The team may wait until much closer to the game to decide that depth chart. But, for now, Teasley has good things to say about McCarthy.
