SPENCERPORT – Victor knows its toughest challenges still await.

Through two weeks of Section V high school football, though, the Blue Devils are 2-0.

Sept. 10 took Victor to upset-minded Spencerport (0-2). Defense defined the Blue Devils' 21-0 win, affording them a slow offensive start while Eli Ricci and company found their footing.

Ten years have passed since Victor last captured a Section V football championship. Ending the drought won’t be easy in Class A1.

But a mix of young and old talent prompts optimism for the Blue Devils, who opened their season by defeating the reigning on Sept. 3. Their first road win of 2026 provided another step forward.

Bookmark this: Defense, big plays fuel Victor winRicci, a junior quarterback, broke a scoreless tie when he scrambled for a 20-yard touchdown run with 38 seconds left in the first half. He added a 19-yard TD pass to DeShae Nelson in the fourth stanza after Carter Abbate’s third-quarter rushing score.

Victor’s two scoring drives chewed the majority of the second half game clock. Antonio Martinez opened the half with an interception for the Blue Devils, another momentum boost after Ricci’s TD closed the first half.

This win followed Victor’s versus Penfield a week prior.

Section V powers await

Victor next visits Hilton, a potential Class A1 playoff foe. The tests won’t stop there.

Victor’s next four opponents – Hilton, Webster Schroeder, Pittsford and Rush-Henrietta – all rank among the top six in the Democrat and Chronicle’s high school football large school rankings for Week 2.

Those four games – plus a trip to Fairport to close the regular season – will provide much more information on where the Blue Devils stand. Schroeder also defeated Victor in last year’s Section V semifinals, avenging a regular season loss.

Through two games, though? So far, so good at Victor.
