Vance appears more like Trump’s heir-apparent at GOP convention

Vice President JD Vance’s role at the Republican midterm convention is strengthening the perception that he is President Donald Trump’s chosen successor.

DALLAS — At 6 a.m. Thursday, fresh off less than four hours of sleep, Vice President JD Vance’s phone rang in his hotel room. It was President Donald Trump.

“JD, are you awake?” Trump asked his second-in-command.
