USA TODAY Sports Super 15 West region football rankings, Week 2

It took just one week of action for a new team to assert itself atop the West Region.

Bishop Gorman's (Las Vegas) (Bellflower, CA) elevated the Gaels to the No. 1 spot in the region while prompting argument as best team in the country. The Braves slipped, but not too far, and will have a chance to stabilize against a cross-country opponent.

In Utah, Corner Canyon (Draper, UT) has been dominant, outscoring its two opponents by a combined 70 points. Orem (UT) dropped out after starting 1-1 and has been replaced by a California team.

1. Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV)

Record: 1-0

Bishop Gorman dominated the first half against California powerhouse St. John Bosco and won a game with national implications to move to 1-0.

Next Game: Saturday, Aug. 29, at Columbus (Miami, FL), 2 p.m.

2. Centennial (Corona, CA)

Record: 1-0

Centennial asserted itself as the best team in California with a win over Servite, with quarterback Jaden Jefferson scoring four total touchdowns. They'll now play in a rematch of last year's CIF-SS Div. I championship.

Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, vs. Santa Margarita (CA), 7 p.m.

3. St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA)

Record: 0-1

St. John Bosco lost to Bishop Gorman, but its strong second half — which included a stretch of outscoring the Gaels 28-7 — showed how good the team can be when the Braves play fast and free.

Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, vs. Roman Catholic (Philadelphia, PA), 7 p.m.

4. Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA)

Record: 1-0

Mater Dei beat American Fork (UT) 31-11, but the Monarchs couldn't pull away until the fourth quarter. They'll continuing to evaluate quarterback play with two more games against out-of-state competition.

Next Game: Saturday, Aug. 29, vs. Orem (UT), 7 p.m.

5. Basha (Chandler, AZ)

Record: 0-0

Basha starts its season this week with a rematch of last year's championship game. The Bears will look to prove they're not only the best team in Arizona, but a top-10 team in the nation.

6. Hamilton (Chandler, AZ)

Record: 0-0

Behind junior QB Jax Sculley and senior WR Roye Oliver III, the Huskies will start their season on Thursday against a good Arizona team in Brophy.

Next Game: Thursday, Aug. 27, at Brophy College Prep (Phoenix), 7 p.m.

7. Chandler (AZ)

Record: 0-0

Chandler was dismantled by Basha in last year's championship game, but the Wolves will look to come out strong to start this year.

Next Game: Saturday, Aug. 29, vs. Basha (Chandler, AZ), 7 p.m.

8. Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA)

Record: 1-0

The reigning California state champion picked up where it left off with a shutout win over a California opponent. This week, will look to show it's still the best team in California with a rematch of last year's CIF-SS Div. I championship.

Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, vs. Centennial (Corona, CA), 7 p.m.

9. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, CA)

Record: 1-0

Sierra Canyon started its season strong, but now faces a Florida team that is relevant on the national stage. This would be a statement game for the Trailblazers.

Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, at Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, FL), 4 p.m. (PST)

10. Corner Canyon (Draper, UT)

Record: 2-0

Through two games, Corner Canyon has outscored its opponents 91-21. They're unquestionably the best team in Utah, and should not have been ranked otherwise in the preseason.

Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, vs. Fremont (Plain City, UT), 7 p.m.

11. Desert Edge (Goodyear, AZ)

Record: 0-0

Desert Edge is full of talent coming off an 11-1 season. The Scorpions will look to start strong in 2026 this week.

Next Game: Thursday, Aug. 27, at Cactus Shadows (Cave Creek, AZ), 7 p.m.

12. De La Salle (Concord, CA)

Record: 0-0

De La Salle returns to action after a 12-1 season in which it was featured in the Super 25 consistently.

Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, at Junipero Serra (San Mateo, CA), 7 p.m.

13. Mililani (HI)

Record: 2-0

The top team in Hawaii beat St. Louis 42-0 last week and has now scored 73 points on the season.

Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, at McClymonds (Oakland, CA), 4 p.m. (HST)

14. Mission Viejo (CA)

Record: 1-0

Mission Viejo enters the rankings after a 55-17 opening-weekend victory. Sophomore quarterback Brett Burnor passed for four touchdowns and ran for a fifth score.

Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, vs. St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs, CA)

15. Orange Lutheran (CA)

Record: 0-1

Orange Lutheran fell to Florida foe Miami Central in the final minute of the game, ruining what had been an otherwise very strong performance, particularly on defense. They'll have a chance to right the ship against a good Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, CA) team this week.

Next Game: Friday, Aug. 28, at Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, CA), 7 p.m.
