Just one win away from its first National Championship in program history, the 2026 UNC baseball team provided a success story everyone in Chapel Hill rallied behind.
North Carolina only lost one regular-season series, then fell just short of a second-consecutive ACC Tournament championship. The Diamond Heels swept their way through the Chapel Hill Regional, staged a Game 3 comeback for the ages against USC, then swept their way again to the College World Series finals.
Several standouts from that 2026 roster are now in the pros, while key standouts like Erik Paulsen and Gavin Gallaher will return for 2027. Recently, UNC learned it'll add another stud to its 2028 roster, landing a commitment from AC Reynolds right-handed pitcher Duncan Carver.
According to his PerfectGame recruiting profile, Carver is a Top-200 recruit who sports a 91 mph fastball. Entering his junior season this coming spring, Carver likely further develops more velocity and a deeper pitch arsenal, catching the attention of collegiate and MLB scouts alike.
North Carolina will have to replace two spots in its 2027 starting rotation, with Ryan Lynch and 2026 ace Jason DeCaro now playing in the minor leagues. Bullpen ace Caden Galuber (12-0, 2.05 ERA, 114 K's) likely fills one of those spots, Folger Boaz likely takes the other, while spot three is up for grabs.
Seemingly every year the Diamond Heels make a deep run, they have strong pitching. Such was the case in 2026, when UNC carried a solid core of 3-4 shutdown guys who could neutralize any lineup.
If North Carolina is able to thrive on the mound in 2027, you can bet Carver remains committed to one of the ACC's top programs.
