Umar Nurmagomedov has returned to training just 10 days after suffering a knockout loss at UFC Shanghai.
The Team Khabib prodigy has true title aspirations and was arguably one comfortable win against Song Yadong away from his second shot at gold under the UFC banner. Embracing playing the role of spoiler, Yadong set out on his own path to the throne. Heading into the bout, ‘Kung Fu Kid’ disregarded his underdog status, knocking out the heavy favorite in the second round for the biggest win of his career.
The defeat left Team Khabib crushed. Umar Nurmagomedov’s older brother, Usman, almost started a brawl with Yadong after he stormed the cage to be by his sibling’s side. Unfamiliar with losing, Umar will now have to pick himself back up after a performance that threatens to derail his entire career.
Instead of going radio silent and not keeping his fans in the loop, the 30-year-old shared a promising update about his future on social media. Less than two weeks after UFC Shanghai, Umar has return to training.
The post, which simply read “necessary,” sparked joy among his fan base as they spent days impatiently waiting for an update.
While medical clearance is needed before Umar Nurmagomedov can return to active competition, it is good to see him in good spirits and back in the gym.

Umar Nurmagomedov likely took the loss hard, taking days to deal with what unfolded on August 29, before finally speaking out some days after his display.
The Russian insisted it’s not over until he wins, teasing a return to the octagon in the future. Umar is still ranked in the top 5 in the bantamweight division and likely remains one big performance away from competing for the title once again.
