
The police gave the names of the duo as Umar Farooq (32) of Bantwal and Nishant Kumar (24) of Mangaluru.
In a complaint to the Udupi Town police on August 13, S. Abbas, the Chief Administrative Officer of Udupi district court, said Udupi District and Sessions Court had granted bail to Noman, who is an accused in a case registered with Cyber Crime Police Station.
Umar Farooq appeared as surety for bail of Noman on January 30, 2026. He claimed to be K.T. Mohammed and produced an Aadhaar card showing that name. This Aadhaar card was found to be fake, as it actually belongs to a man named Prashant.
Apart from cheating the court by producing a fake document as a original document, the accused has also cheated K.T. Mohammed and Prashant, Mr. Abbas alleged.
Police registered the complaint under Sections 319(2), 336(3), 318(4), 229(1), and 340(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and also under Section 35 of Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act.
A special police team led by Sub-Inspector K. Ratnakar arrested Umar Farooq and Nishant Kumar . They were produced before the jurisdictional court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
Another case of cheating
In another complaint on September 8 to Udupi Town police about of use of fake Aadhaar card in court, Somappa, the sheristedar of Principal Senior Civil Judge Court, said a man named Umarabba Moiddin had produced fake Aadhaar card. Moiddin produced the card on August 31 while standing surety for bail of accused Ramavat Shreenu and Ramavat Mohan Kumar in a criminal case, which is pending before the second Additional Senior Civil Judge Court, Somappa stated.The police have registered this complaint under Sections 319(2), 336(3), 318(4), 229(1), and 340(2) of BNS, and under Section 35 of Aadhaar Act.
The arrested persons were being questioned.
