The senior receiver pulled in three touchdown grabs and amassed over 150 receiving yards as the team stamped a 42-25 road victory over Milton on Thursday, Sept. 10.
Richardson, who also doubles as a basketball standout, scored on catch-and-runs spanning 54, 44 and 52 yards. He was named a Patriot League All-Star in both sports as a junior last year.
"He's shifty," said senior quarterback Nate Rollinson, who dished out five touchdown passes. "He's a great route artist. I just know I've got to get him the ball and he'll make plays. "
This marks just the second time in coach Chris Arouca's nine-year tenure that Marshfield sealed a Week 1 victory.
The team previously opened against Division 1 powerhouse St. John's Prep from 2021-24, and Methuen on the road in 2025. Milton, which last year appeared in the Division 3 semifinals, lost nine starters on offense to graduation in the offseason, including the record-setting quarterback and receiver tandem of Patrick Collins and Ronan Sammon.
Arouca chuckled at the stat: "No, it's real," he said.
"That stat is tough to hear, but I'm glad we got to change it tonight," said Richardson. "The team played amazing. What more can you ask for? 42 points. ... My QB was cooking. "
Senior Cole Hannigan (30-yard reception) and sophomore Austin Bossey also scored touchdowns for the Rams, who finished with a 7-3 record and atop the Patriot League Keenan Division standings last fall. Senior linebacker Keigan Holte and junior defensive back Jimmy Perfetuo tallied interceptions in the win.
"We're pretty thrilled," Arouca said. "They worked hard all winter, all summer. It paid off right there. They should be pretty proud of their effort. "
