Two Renoir paintings are missing after French museum heist

A manhunt is underway after thieves snatched four Renoir paintings from a museum on the French Riviera, the local mayor said. Two pieces were recovered at the scene.

Two people broke into the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, Mayor Bryan Masson said on social media. The suspects, caught on surveillance cameras, bolted as police arrived five minutes later. Masson said in his statement that they had abandoned one painting in their escape, but later told reporters that two of the artworks had been recovered.
