Troy Aikman did not hold back with his prediction for the 2026 Miami Dolphins as he addressed his Monday Night Football role.

The former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys is working as a consultant for the Dolphins, but did not shy away from admitting they are in for another poor season.

Aikman has been given the green light by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to work for both ESPN and the Dolphins.

The 59-year-old is entering a contract year with ESPN having previously signed a five-year deal back in 2022 worth a reported $18m per year.

However, Aikman does not expect any conflict of interest as he admits only the good teams get to play Monday Night Football.

What Troy Aikman said about the Miami Dolphins playing on Monday Night Football

The Dolphins ended the 2025 season with a 7-10 record, but have seen significant changes made over the offseason.

Mike McDaniel has moved on as head coach, and starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has joined the Atlanta Falcons.

Having seen so much change, Aikman has admitted he is not expecting much from the Dolphins this season as they navigate their dismal cap situation.

“The Dolphins are not expected to be very good this year. They’re getting out of cap hell, so there’s no Monday night game with the Dolphins this year,” Aikman said.

“I have friendships every week that I call a game, whether with a head coach or offensive coordinator or player or whoever it is. I would argue that every broadcaster has a conflict when they’re calling a game.”

To Aikman’s credit, he has seemingly gone about his position the right way by being open and honest to both the commissioner and the viewers.

“I’ve talked to the commissioner and he’s fine with what I’m doing and my role,” he added.

However, there will be some Dolphins fans who may be questioning Aikman’s comments given he is one of the people making recommendations for the direction of the franchise.

Although he may simply be honest in his verdict, it does not reflect positively on the upcoming season for those in Miami.
