Darren Webb, right, was a regular on BBC Radio Manchester [BBC] Tributes have been paid to a "legendary" Manchester United fan and podcaster who travelled the world to follow the Red Devils. Darren Webb, who ran the Webby & O'Neill podcast, died from cancer on 12 August, his family said. They announced their "devastating loss" with "deep sorrow and unimaginable grief", adding Webb had suffered a "long battle with cancer". Happy Mondays singer Rowetta and Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess were also among those leaving tributes to "Webby". Rowetta said she would him "so much" and thanked him for "always looking out for me". In their statement, his family said: "Darren absolutely loved life, his family, friends, followers and his beloved United." They said they would announce memorial plans "in due course". Tony O'Neill, who co-presented the podcast, said he was "absolutely heartbroken". He added: "We've lost our mate, and that's what hurts the most. "Anyone who knew Webby or watched us over the years knows what he was like. "What you saw was what you got. "He loved United, loved a laugh and could certainly give you his opinion." Rowetta said Webby was more than a friend to her and like a brother [BBC] Tim Burgess described him as "a close friend", adding: "His smile lit up a room and his off-the-record stories about United were a treat to hear." Fellow football fans told of their shock and sadness at Webb's death on social media. Mark Gandy said he was "absolutely gutted" and that he "could listen to Webby telling stories all day long". United fan Jem Cook said "match days would never be the same again".
