Travis Kelce is 36 at this time and it’s safe to say that he is past is prime years of his career. He is regarded as one of the most prominent tight end of all time and is the most tenured player in the Kansas City Chiefs roster. But in the last phase of his career, he is focusing on becoming a family man, having married to the pop-star Taylor Swift. Recent reports suggested that he has missed Chiefs’ preseason Kickoff Luncheon and that has fueled the skepticism on him that had been building for the last few years.
Travis Kelce Missed Out The Kickoff Luncheon
The veteran tight end and longest-tenured player on the Kansas City Chiefs, was absent from the team’s annual Kickoff Luncheon just days before the start of the regular season. The traditional event brings together players, coaches, executives, and members of the Kansas City community.

The Kansas City Star beat writer Pete Sweeney confirmed the report passed on by Mitch Holthus. “Travis Kelce is not at the Chiefs’ annual kickoff luncheon. Under the weather, per Mitch Holthus,” Pete Sweeney wrote on “X”.
This marked the first time in his career that Kelce missed the luncheon. While missing a ceremonial event due to illness is not uncommon and is not the same as an injury, it comes at a moment when questions about his durability and age are already circulating. Those questions have been fueled in part by what has been observed in training camp.
During one practice, cornerback Melvin Smith Jr. broke up a pass intended for Kelce and knocked him to the ground. The contact was not particularly hard, yet Kelce struggled to get back to his feet. For a player long known for his ability to run through the middle of the field and stay on his feet after contact, the moment stood out.
All of this adds up in the skepticism Travis Kelce has been facing being told on him for the last few years. Production has declined over the past two years by his own high standards, and some analysts have openly questioned whether he remains an impact player. At the same time, Kelce has expressed strong motivation to continue playing, and the Chiefs have managed his workload carefully in camp while carrying depth at the tight end position.
Travis Kelce is motivated and “fired up”
Despite the criticism surrounding his age and recent production, Travis Kelce has made clear that his drive remains strong as he enters Year 14 with the Kansas City Chiefs. In a recent interview with Vogue, Kelce said he still feels he has plenty left to give and is chasing a level of perfection he has never fully reached.
“I’ve had a lot of success in the NFL, but I’m still reaching for that perfection. I still haven’t played the perfect game,” he explained. “Year 14, baby, I’m fired up. Every year there’s a chance to do something special, but especially coming into this year, getting Pat [Mahomes] back and wiping the slate clean,” he said.
Head coach Andy Reid has responded by managing Kelce’s workload with clear restraint. Reid has acknowledged that Kelce is the oldest player on the roster and has at times needed to be pulled from practice simply to force him to rest. “You have examples like Kelce. He’s the oldest guy on the team and came out every day and worked to where you had to yank him out of there to give him a breather,” Reid said.
Travis Kelce is at the end phase of his career a lot has shifted to different direction in his life. At this age, his career is not the only thing he is focusing on but he is motivated and confident to get back and produce a great year 14.
