Tommy Fleetwood and Jordan Spieth played alongside one another on Thursday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Spieth is tied for the lead at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on five-under par, while Fleetwood is one shot back on four-under.

The American and the Englishman both played some extremely solid golf on day one at TPC Southwind.

Tommy Fleetwood burst out of the blocks and was four-under after four holes, while Jordan Spieth got hot midway through his round.

After their performances on Thursday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, both players will fancy their chances of winning the tournament.

However, there is obviously still a very long way to go.

Tommy Fleetwood says how he found playing with Jordan Spieth at the FedEx St. Jude

The 35-year-old addressed the media after his opening round in Memphis on Thursday.

Fleetwood responded when asked how he found playing alongside Spieth in Memphis on Thursday.

“We’d have had a really good better-ball score actually, probably,“ the Englishman said.

“I don’t know what it would be, but Jordan is always great to play with. I had a really good time with him. He played great.

“It’s always helpful when you have momentum in the two-ball really, so that was nice. Especially on hot days and we’re really grinding it out, it was nice to be kind of stress-free for the most part.

“All of that sort of makes a difference.“

The Englishman and the American will be hoping to continue their fine form on Friday and on into the weekend at TPC Southwind.

Jordan Spieth responds to Tommy Fleetwood’s ‘stress-free’ comments

Spieth was asked by reporters after his opening round whether he agrees with Fleetwood’s ‘stress-free’ assessment of day one in Memphis.

“Yeah, if you look at the stats, you’ll see four or five missed greens, but I had a putter in my hand on every single one of them, they were on the fringe. If you want to count that as 18 greens, it becomes about as stress free as it can be,“ the Dallas native said.

“I had a couple of those last weekend, which was nice. But I could have gotten into some trouble early in the round today, and I played the right spots, stayed patient, and my tap-ins didn’t frustrate me.

“In fact, it was like, all right, well, this is kind of the worst that I could have played this hole and I tapped in for par. So let’s just stay the course.

“Once one fell on No. 9, the lid came off, and I made a few early there in the back.“
