WNBA world is buzzing over the sold-out Fever-Dream game, with Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham and Angel Reese driving the conversation.

State Farm Arena in Atlanta was packed on Sunday as the Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream met in a matchup with potential playoff implications. With Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and Angel Reese all on the floor, the game had plenty of star power before the opening tip.

The Fever ultimately escaped with a 95-91 overtime victory, but the result was only part of the story. The sold-out crowd and the reaction it generated across the WNBA community quickly became a talking point in their own right.

WNBA Fans React to Fever-Dream Sellout Amid Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Sophie Cunningham Buzz

The Fever entered the game at 22-12, while Atlanta was 21-12, with both teams fighting for the No. 4 spot in the standings. The stakes were significant because the top four seeds earn home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The matchup also brought together three of the WNBA’s most recognizable players. Clark and Cunningham represented Indiana, while Reese headlined the Dream after moving to Atlanta from the Chicago Sky during the offseason.

The Dream had anticipated significant interest and moved the game to State Farm Arena, home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks. The WNBA noted that the 16,888-seat venue was sold out shortly before tipoff. Atlanta’s usual home, the Gateway Center, has a capacity of only 3,500.

Once the game delivered the drama expected from the matchup, league observers quickly debated who was responsible for the packed house.

“For everyone saying nobody watches the WNBA, the game was absolutely packed today. This is the Caitlin Clark + Sophie Cunningham Effect,” YouTuber Adam Francisco wrote.

“Angel Reese will say they were there for her,” an X user tweeted.

“Nobody watches the WNBA … without Caitlin Clark playing, that is,” a journalist added.

“The game was moved to a bigger stadium because of CC,” an Ohio State supporter noted.

“Sophie Cunningham Effect isn’t a thing. She averages 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist a game,” a WNBA observer reacted.

“It’s all for Clark. But Sophie’s crossed into the mainstream. People who’ve never seen a game know her name,” a self-proclaimed sci-fi author wrote.

“Packed for Clark and the Fever – now do other games, not the Fever,” an X user commented.

“The Faces of the W,” a Pacers and Fever supporter claimed.

The attendance figures offer some context. According to “Across the Timeline,” Atlanta averages only 6,920.17 in-arena fans this season. Against the Fever, the Dream comfortably sold out both home games.

Indiana, meanwhile, has been a major draw both at home and on the road. The Fever average 16,332.11 fans at home, third in the WNBA, and 15,169.44 on the road, the league’s best mark, according to the same data.

Those numbers suggest the Fever remain one of the WNBA’s biggest attractions, particularly when Clark is available. Reese and the Dream clearly have their own drawing power, but Sunday’s sellout showed just how much attention a Fever road game can generate.

The overtime win may have belonged to Indiana, but the sellout delivered another reminder of the Fever’s enormous pull. In a league searching for bigger stages and bigger audiences, Clark remains one of the clearest reasons fans keep showing up.
