It's been a rough start to the year for Texas volleyball, which lost to Arizona State in its season opener, was swept Sunday by No. 1 Nebraska in Las Vegas and lost starting outside hitter Abby Vander Wal to a season-ending knee injury.
The Longhorns, who fell from No. 2 to No. 9 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, hope to find their groove in Wednesday's home opener against No. 15 USC (1-1). Texas (2-2) leads the all-time series against the Trojans, 6-5, including a 3-2 mark at Gregory Gym. The Longhorns have won the last four meetings, including a 3-0 sweep of the Trojans the last time the teams met in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament at home. Texas is 4-1 against USC under head coach Jerritt Elliott.
Elliott also has a history with the Trojans, serving as USC's interim head coach from 1999-2000. He led USC to the national semifinals in 2000 and was named Pac-10 coach of the year in both seasons, sharing the honor in 2000. He was also named the 1999 AVCA Pacific Region coach of the year.
