We’ve reached the position preview of the man under center – the quarterback. The position that makes or breaks the offense seems to be the most stable it has been in years in College Station. Let’s take a look at why QB1 could be primed for a breakout season.

Who did we lose?

  • The biggest loss at quarterback was backup Miles O’Neill. The Massachusetts native has headed back east to the ACC, joining Bill Belichick’s North Carolina. He recorded one touchdown last season (vs. Utah State), appearing in seven total games for A&M.
  • Jacob Zeno, a graduate transfer from UAB and Baylor, did attempt five passes against Samford in his only outing with the Maroon and White.
  • Finally, to address the elephant in the room, offensive coordinator Collin Klein exited, leaving to take the head coaching job at his alma mater, Kansas State. His co-offensive coordinator, Holmon Wiggins, was promoted to be the lone OC for this season.

Who do we bring back?

  • QB1 returns in the form of Marcel Reed. The redshirt junior is set for his second full season as the starter and his third season of action with the Maroon and White. Reed passed for 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2025, adding 493 rushing yards and six scores on the ground. Limiting the turnovers will be key for Reed, something he has reportedly already had progress with in fall practice.
  • The depth chart returns some experience with redshirt freshman Brady Hart. The 6-4, 200-lb signal caller saw action against Samford and Utah State last year and will likely contend with the next name on our list for the backup and third-string roles.
  • Eli Morcos fills out the depth chart entering his second year on campus. He was a three-star recruit in the Aggies’ 2025 recruiting class and did not appear in a game last season.

What other names should we know?

  • That other name is Helaman Casuga. A blue-chip freshman recruit from Kona, Hawai’i, Casuga has already been with the program as a January early enrollee. The 6-foot, 213-pound quarterback is expected to compete for the backup role and could potentially see action this season.

Overall Grade: A-

Returning QB1 in this day and age of college football immediately shoots the grade into A-B territory. Reed was one of the main reasons the Aggies went 11-2 and reached their first College Football Playoff. Concurrently, Reed was also one of the keys that caused the Maroon and White to lose their final two contests. It feels like the Nashville, Tenn., native has stepped up over the offseason and has worked at his craft to avoid the ample turnovers that caused problems in 2025. With two capable signal callers behind him in Hart and Casuga, there is a sense of security with the quarterback position for the first time in a long time in Aggieland. If Reed takes the next step, limits his mistakes and increases his downfield accuracy, the A- grade could easily turn into an A+. Right now, the stability in this position most certainly speaks volumes.
