Like most contending teams, the Houston Texans elected to sit most starters in the first preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday evening. That won't be the case when the Las Vegas Raiders come to town on Thursday evening. Texanscoach DeMeco Ryans said he anticipates everyone healthy and cleared to play will start in the final preseason game at home. The Texans have another preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, but oftentimes, they choose to play only players on the bubble. This has been a common theme for the Texans under Ryans in four years. Last year, Houston's first-team offense only played a few series, including the first two series last season at home against the Panthers. Thursday will be the first opportunity to see the entire offensive unit together, including new starting running back David Montgomery and quarterback C.J. Stroud. On Thursday, the starting offensive line played one series against the Chargers, though the supporting cast was second-team options, including quarterback Davis Mills. "For our guys to be able to go against a really talented team it’s going to be very beneficial to us and really help us progress and get better as camp is going on," Ryans said. Before the game, Houston and Las Vegas will meet for a joint practice on Tuesday morning. Ryans said that while Las Vegas is growing as a roster under first-year head coach Klint Kubiak, they have talent in the trenches and certainly on the defensive line, headlined by All-Pro defensive end Maxx Crosby. "They're going to give us a lot of good looks, good competition, really good talent, especially at the running back position is talented," Ryans said. "They’re talented at tight ends; their offensive line is fast." Practice is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.
