The Seahawks’ interest in Terrion Arnold playing for them has hit a snag.

So they are turning some of their attention to a former All-Pro cornerback.

Arnold, the free-agent cornerback facing eight felony charges in Florida, has yet to sign with the Seahawks. He agreed last week to sign a one-year contract with the Super Bowl champions.

But when he does sign, he likely will not be able to practice or play for his team.

That’s the news of Tuesday at Seahawks headquarters. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will put Arnold on his exempt list as soon as he signs, according to a report from the league-owned NFL Network.

The NFL player personnel policy manual states the exempt list “is a special player status available to clubs only in unusual circumstances.”

Players on the exempt list cannot practice or play for his team he’s under contract to. He can be in team meeting’s, the team’s training room and all other off-the-field aspects of being on a team.

Players on the exempt list do not count toward a team’s roster limits, 90 players for the preseason that must be cut to 53 by Aug. 30.

The league’s player personnel policy also states: “The commissioner also has the authority to determine in advance whether a player’s time on the exempt list will be finite or will continue until the commissioner deems the exemption should be lifted and the player returned to the active list.”

The Seahawks agreed to the one-year deal with Arnold on the belief by vice president of football administration Joey Laine that Arnold may be able to play this preseason.

That looks like a remote chance now.

Trevon Diggs tryout

Unproven Nehemiah Pritchett, a third-year pro and 2024 Seahawks draft choice, has been the third cornerback with Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe in Seattle’s training camp.

Yet it’s obvious coach Mike Macdonald and his defensive staff are not satisfied with their third-cornerback situation in the wake of Riq Woolen signing with Philadelphia in free agency this spring.

Hours after the news Arnold apparently would go straight onto the exempt list as soon as he signs the Seahawks hosted free agent and former Dallas Cowboys All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs for a tryout Tuesday. That was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter Tuesday afternoon.

Diggs, who turns 28 next month, had a league-high 11 interceptions for Dallas in 2021. He played eight games for Dallas and one for Green Bay last season. Diggs went on the Cowboys’ injured-reserve list in October because of a concussion symptoms following an accident at his home plus a knee injury. Dallas waived him in December.

The Packers claimed him off waivers Dec. 31, 2025. He played one game for them. Green Bay waived Diggs in January.

He last played a full, 17-game regular season in 2022. That was his latter of two Pro Bowl seasons for Dallas.
