Jacob Fields' time at TCU was short lived.
The transfer safety from Louisiana Tech was dismissed from the program on Tuesday for a violation of team rules, according to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. He was a three-star recruit out of Melissa High School in the class of 2023.
"Due to a violation of team rules, Jacob Fields has been removed from our roster and will not be a member of our football team moving forward," a spokesperson said in a statement.
Fields was the Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2025 after leading Louisiana Tech in tackles (92). He also had three interceptions, with two returned for touchdowns, five pass breakups and 2.5 tackles for loss.
The transfer was set to replace Bud Clark, a second-round NFL draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks, in the Horned Frogs' secondary. TCU can still look to Jamel Johnson, who led the team with five interceptions last season, to anchor the safety position.
The Horned Frogs will open their season Aug. 29 against North Carolina at Aviva Stadium in Dublin before returning to Fort Worth to play Grambling State on Sep. 12. After back-to-back 8-4 seasons, TCU hopes it finds itself in the Big 12 championship game in December 2026.
