Seattle Storm center Ezi Magbegor suffered a torn right ACL on Wednesday while playing for Australia in the FIBA World Cup.
The Storm announced the news of her injury on Thursday. Magbegor sustained the injury in Australia’s 82-80 win over Italy to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinals.
The injury takes place with four games remaining in Seattle’s regular season. The WNBA broke late in its regular season to allow players to travel to Berlin to compete in the World Cup.
The WNBA regular season will resume on Sept. 17, and the playoffs are scheduled to start Sept. 27. The 8-32 Storm are not in playoff contention.The injury is another difficult blow for Magbegor, who was limited to 14 of Seattle’s previous 40 games becaue of a foot injury and facial fracture. A timeline for her return to basketball wasn’t immediately clear.
Magbegor, 27, is a former All-Star and four-time All-Defensive team selection. In her limited availability this season, Magbegor averaged 6.9 points, 4 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 0.8 steals per game.
