The kings of the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed captured a share of an eighth consecutive league title last season. Two entire graduating classes – 2022 and 2025 – with no crossovers between them were both able to make their way through all four years winning league titles each year.

Those are lofty expectations for the newest set of incoming freshmen this year.

“Every year we lose some good players from last year,” head coach Nick Yordy said. “But some of the guys that we did lose, these younger guys are really taking advantage of an opportunity to step up and get out on the field on a Friday night and go out there and try to win some football games.”

That’s not to say Badin will be made up of underclassmen as it does have several returning juniors and seniors, but the amount of seniors lost as Yordy indicated does leave many questions for the Rams to answer this year.

It is easy fuel for motivation to prove any doubters wrong, according to senior Emmett Sackenheim.

“There’s a lot of talk that we’re not going to be as good as we have been in the past, and I think some people are kind of taking that personally,” he said. “I just want to prove them wrong, I guess.”

The heart on display by Sackenheim is the same Badin has displayed for the last eight years running. It’s what they don’t want to give up now as the next crew steps in.

“We have a bunch of young guys, but I mean we got a really good brotherhood, and that’s something that’s huge for us,” senior LT King said.
