The Dallas Stars have started looking ahead to new beginnings in Plano with their off-season announcement of a new arena, but have also finally settled a legal matter regarding their current home.

The two teams sharing the American Airlines Center, the Stars and Mavericks, announced a settlement regarding a dispute over who would run the arena until both teams relocated. New Mavericks ownership brought a lawsuit to the Stars for violating a previous agreement to keep their headquarters in the city of Dallas.

The Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks say they have reached an agreement that resolves any outstanding disagreements between the two teams.

Because of the lawsuit, the Mavericks assumed ownership of all revenue from the American Airlines Center including concessions, parking and other monetary benefits. A judge ruled that in favor of the Mavericks and gave them control of the arena management for the future. The Stars were in the appeal process when the two teams announced their agreement.

Terms were undisclosed and no specifics on how either team would move forward we're announced. Both teams did commit to staying at the American Airlines Center until their leases expire in 2031. Both teams will then split to their new arenas, with the Mavericks scheduled to build on the former Valley View Mall site, and the Stars at the current Willow Bend Mall site.
